Bennett Place State Historic Site The Bennett House is the location where the civil war ended in 1865 and the remaining troops were surrendered to General T. Sherman. A surrender re-enactment is held every April. Guided tours of the property are offered. Several exhibits are displayed including photographs, uniforms, flags and guns. Built in 1891, the Greek-revival style church is testament to the cooperation between blacks and whites in the area, specifically the Hayti community. The former church is now used as a performance venue and is home of the Old Hayti archival collection. Cultural arts and educational programs are also offered.
